Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) is a specific, 7-phase, small group, crisis response process. A technique under the umbrella of the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Program, this process does not serve as a substitute for psychotherapy. It is a discussion-based, crisis-focused effort after a traumatic event (frequently referred to as a critical incident).
This tool was developed for groups that suffer through a powerful, traumatic event. The goal is to reduce the team's distress and restore their performance.
